Day 5 - Frenulum

I decided to click pictures of my penis for my own record to see how will it improves as the days pass by.
the top and sides of my dick look fine but the behind part where the frenulum is, is quite messed up. I am not too concerned though as it looking like scabbing which may fall of in time. Also in other blogs i noticed that all the other guys too usually had their frenulum area having a ghastly appearance.

Now my shaft skin is bunching up close to my glans base and i can see its going over the swelling area just below the base. Now my doctor didnt give me any option as to the "style/look" of the circumcision. But after reading about it on other blogs looks like he gave me a low and loose cut. Hence the bunching up of shaft skin at the glans base. Every time i take a piss i pour warm water on my penis and try to rinse of the white gunk that appear just below the base. Im afraid to pull back the skin and reveal the swollen ring partly because im not sure if i would cause damage from the pulling and secondly i would be terrified to see something weird. Right now my penis looks totally fine from the top view. Just the glans exposed and immediately below the glans is the bunched up skin from the shaft. The stitches have started to claw on the side and if have to keep pulling my ball sac away to stop that constant poking feeling. It feels a bit like thorns poking unless i adjust by balls out of the way.

I figure i will continue with the warm water washes several times a day until the next week when i have my next appointment with my doctor.

Just a note that prior to circ i used to lift weights thrice a week and used to have protein shakes. I have stopped exercising completely and am starting to get really fat as i am stuck at home all day and now eat out of boredom. But i read on several sites that protein can help with post surgery healing and so im still on the shakes hoping it will help me recover faster. Im still walking slowly and with some discomfort specially from the dangling of my dick and balls.

Im now looking forward to having the stitches fall  out soon so that i can have erections without that thorny feeling and also so i can have a look at how my dick looks when fully erect.

Day 4 - Bandages Off

Finally it was monday.. the day i had been waiting for since saturday. I would be going back to Dr.Vernon for a checkup and dressing change as well. I was really hoping to hear some good news today in terms of healing progress once the bandages were off.

By now my bandages were completely soaked in urine. My balls and thighs were getting slapped by the bandages and hence were getting that irritating wet feeling. Since the bandages were so wet i constantly felt like i needed to urinate. Moreover due to the usual erections that occur while im asleep, the bandages were also moving off from where they initially were and now were even covering a major part of my glans.
I was smelling like a public lavatory that entire day and the stench wouldn't go away no matter how many times id wipe my self with baby wipes or try to dry the bandages off with tissues. It was highly embarassing and i just wanted the day to go by so that i could visit my doc and get the bandages off.

When evening time finally arrived i got ready. As mentioned in previous posts, while at home i only wear a garment called lungi (something like a long, think cotton skirt) and my dick and balls would dangle loosely. Though wearing this garment allowed for more air and ventilation it also caused a bit more discomfort from all the dangling and movement whenever i would walk. However to go to the clinic i first put on my underwear (trunks style). The close fit of the trunks allowed the penis to be held at 12 o'Clock position without much movement. I was able to wear y shorts comfortable over the underwear and was even able to walk easily, although at a much slower pace than i usually walk.

At  the clinic, Dr.Vernon removed my bandages. Though he was just unwinding them, the constant pushing and tugging feeling pained me as my penis was very sensitive. When the bandages were finally off i had a horrible burning sensation on my dick and needed a relax for a couple of minutes before it subsided. The doc said that the wound was healing quite well and told me i needn't worry about anything. The gmals was still sensitive and i couldn't pull up my penis as my frenulum area was very sore. He gave me a gauge square and using that i was able to wear my clothes. The doc said i could take showers now and to let the water flow from my body onto my penis so that it slowly gets used to all these sensations. He told me i no longer needed to take the painkillers and also gave me a betadine ointment to apply all over the glans.  I asked him about the urine flow and he said that probably happened because the bandages were creating some blockage.

Once home i took off all my clothes and finally had the time to inspect my cock. The head was looking quite good and the part where the incision was done was actually covered by the shaft skin and it was bunching up over the incision and swelling. SO it looked like a turte head peering out of its shell. Even my urine flow had become fine again and i was able to pee straight and standing up. The turn of evens brought a big smile ot my face. I was completely relieved that i could pee straight again and also by docs words that i was healing nicely. I hope this continues for the remaining weeks so that most of the healing is done before i leave for school.

DAY 3 - Frustration

Day 3 seemed like a repetition of day 2. Woke up in the morning with the usual stiffness, choking feeling on my dick. I was literally counting the hours down to the next day as i desperately wanted to get rid of the bandages. Fortunately there were a lot of distraction through out the day as many relatives came home and so my mind was not completely focused on my penis.

Still faced the same issue while taking a piss. Unable to direct/aim the flow into the pot and instead its just spraying all over the place. By far this was the biggest annoyance since i got the circ. The pain comes and goes in widely interspersed waves.

Day 2

Day 2 was not a good day for me. Woke up early with a stinging feeling in my penis due to an erection. I had to think of non sexual things to kill the erection and only then the pain went away. Every couple of hours through the day i would suddenly get a surge of moderate pain that would last a few seconds. I think this is again due to the blood and other secretions seeping into the bandages.

My urine flow unfortunately has gotten worse. It was spraying all over for the entire duration and created a bit of a mess in the toilet. The bandages also got a little wet with the urine. The doc asked me to keep it dry till he changed it on monday. But here i was on saturday morning already getting it wet. To make matters worse when i sat on the pot to take a dump i was holding my penis the whole time to avoid contact with the seat etc. Unfortunately i started to pee again and got my bandages wet a lot. I got really frustrated with this as i would have to spend 2 whole days in piss soaked bandages. The last thing i need is to get an infection due to the urine soaked bandages. Really concerned about this spraying effect while peeing. Never had it before my circ. Maybe the foreskin used to help channel the flow into a single stream. This made me drink less water than i normally do as everytime i took a piss i would end up with pee on my thigh and feet and all over the toilet. Just hope this gets rectified soon as having to sit down and pee for the rest of my life would be not just a pain but emasculating as well.

Over all the sensitivity of the glans is still the same. Still the same mild shock like feeling everytime there is contact with the garment. My groin is starting to stink as well due to the blood, fluid and piss soaked bandages. Haven't even had a bath in 2 days and just been using baby wipes to keep my self some what clean. I am quite an impatient person by nature and this healing process is really driving me nuts even though its been only 2 days. When i had a motorcycle accident the previous year i had stitches on my head and bandages around my knees and hands as a lot of skin got scraped off, but after a week i was still able to go about my usual activities. Really hoping that i will be able to resume all my normal activities and lose the hyper sensitivity in my glans after a week as i have to prepare for my departure back to college in the next couple of weeks and cannot afford to waste time.


  

Day 1

I woke up at around 6 am in the morning with the nurse coming in for the routine blood pressure check. I got a good 6 hours of sleep at night and felt well rested but also quite lethargic. Moreover my room didnt have a tv and so i was just starting to get really bored and wanted to head back home asap. I was waiting for Dr. Vernon to come in and check up one me and give me a discharge but he was in an other surgery that morning and i wasnt sure when he would be making his rounds.

I got up to go to the toilet and again was unable to pee straight. The same thing happened wherein it sprayed everywhere initially and then became a straight flow and then at the end of it also it started to spray.
I was also a bit constipated but that was because i hadn't gone the previous day.

After my breakfast and popping some more pills i was just relaxing in my bed. Dr.Vernon then came into my room to have a look at my penis. He said everything seemed ok and i was good to go home. I asked him about the blood and stuff on the bandages and he said that it was normal and that he would have someone come in and replace the dressing before my discharge. He also asked me to come to his private clinic the following Monday to replace the dressing and also check the progress of my healing.

Later in the noon, after my lunch, the discharge sheet was passed to my dad and he went to pay the bill at the cashiers desk. The total expense for everything including room charge, OT charge and doctor fees came to around 14.5K Rs. Now i was only waiting for the dressing to be changed. A female resident doc came into the room along with a nurse. I felt a tad bit awkward about having a female doc do it but was more interested in getting fresh bandages and going home. The dressing change lasted around 5min but it was a world of pain for me. When the doc pulled the bandages of my penis i literally yelped in pain. Then immediately after she applied some kind of liquid which caused a horrible burning sensation on my entire penis. This hurt like hell and i even asked her if it was supposed to burn so much. She said that the burning sensation is expected but i was still grunting from the sensation on my super sensitive penis. I was actually pinching other parts of my body just to confuse the pain signals going to my brain from my penis. It did help a little bit to divert the pain from my penis (which i couldnt handle) to the pinching on my lower abdomen. Once the dressing was changed the pain stopped and the burning subsided. My dad came back in the room ready to go but i needed a good ten minutes to just recover from the last 5min.

Now wearing clothes was another concern for me. I didnt know how i would walk out of the hospital in clothes when i couldnt even bear the hospital gown touching my penis. I read up on the other blogs about this and even my doc advised me the same. I had a pair of fitting trunk style undies and kept my dick at 12 o'clock position. The fit of my undies went over the thickening part of the bandage and so i didnt feel any pain. I wore my shorts and was able to leave the hospital --  walking slowly and in a slightly funny manner.

Once home i got into a clothing called a lungi which is basically like a long skirt kind of cotton item worn by men in southern india. It gave me plenty of room to dangle my dick loose inside without much contact with the cloth. At night while sleeping i had to adjust my dick every time i moved from one side to the other but managed to sleep fine. 

SURGERY DAY - 25th July

At around 6am a nurse came in to take my blood pressure. She asked me to take a shower and change into the gown provided and leave everything like phones,chains, rings and even underwear off. I went in for a shower and looked down to see my old self one last time. No turning back.
I was ready to go by 7.30 itself but it wasnt till 8.30 am that the nurse came in and took me in a wheel chair down to the Operation Theater.

Over there they gave me another shot of antibiotics and then the anesthetist came in and asked me what i wanted. A GA is unnecessary as circumcision is not an intrusive surgery. I opted to be sedated followed by local anesthesia in the surgical area. I dont have a problem with regular injections or needles. But i was quite concerned about the effectiveness of the sedative and local as i had never undergone a surgery prior to this. I would say i have a moderate threshold for pain but when it comes to my dick I'm a bit of a pussy :D.

Dr.Vernon came in and asked me to pass urine once more before start of surgery. I didn't feel like peeing but he asked me to go nonetheless. In the toilet i did pass a bit of urine out. More than what i had expected. i then went to the theater and lay down on the table -- point of no return.

There were several nurses and support doctors assisting Dr.Vernon. I was shivering a because of both nervousness and also the OT was quite cold. The doc asked me if i was cold and i told him yes after which they increased the temperature of the a/c and wrapped a blanket around my upper body.An IV was inserted into my hand for the sedative. They told me i would feel sleepy. But i was considerably alert or at least thought i was. Dr. Vernon was marking the areas and pulling the foreskin a bit which caused me a bit of pain. That was it. After that i simply felt the prick of the needle from the local and from there on in no pain at all.

The doc went to work and in half an hour he was done. The whole time he would check in on me every now an then and i would say all way OK. Once he was done he stitched me up and bandaged me. They rubbed some antiseptic over my legs thighs and balls and i was wheeled out to the recovery room by 9.30am where i remained for an hour and they gave me 500ml of IV fluid.

My dad was brought in to see me and i told him as well all was OK and Dr.Vernon also said evverything went fine. I was really happy cause pain was my biggest fear and the entire surgery was virtually painless apart from the couple of pricks from the needles. After an hour i was wheeled back to my room and asked to stay overnight just to be on the safe side.

I was really pleased with the hole procedure and in the recovery room had a peek at my penis and for the first time saw my penis head. It looked pretty good except for the bit of inflammation. i expected a lot more blood to be seen and so was surprised. Things started to change slowly once the local started to wear off. I started feeling a tingling sensation on my penis as it was exposed for the first time in 25 years. i looked down to see and was a bit worried as i saw a lot of blood and yellow stuff in the bandages. Luckily the blogs i read before the surgery stated that this was expected so i was able to keep my cool.

There was discomfort only when anything made contact with my glans. Even if the gown or sheet touched it i would jump a little. It is not pain but a very very tender and sensitive feeling. The closest i can compare it is to getting a short mild shock every time something touched my glans. With careful adjustment i was able to prevent that contact as well.

At around noon i decides to take a piss and see what happens. I had read the peeing can be very painful after circumcision but this wasn't the case with me. There was no pain or stinging sensation. But my urine was flying all over the place initially , like when u press down on a hose, and after a few seconds it converged into a straight flow. I'm not sure how normal this is and is something i forgot to ask the doctor about. I suspect the spraying is due to the inflammation on my glans tip. The doc had asked me to keep the bandages dry but the last bit of urine would always fall on it. The bandages looked like those dogs with funnels around their necks to keep them from licking. My dick head was sticking out and a short thick bandage surrounded the area where the stitches were.

Every now an then i would feel a shot of pain. Kind of like a mild injection on the tip of my penis. I dont know what causes this pain. I assume its the blood and fluid leaking out. During the night i was given some more antibiotics & a mild pain killer and that was it.

I was able to lie on my back with knees bent and feet on the bed, and even lie in fetal position on both sides comfortably. I lay down o for the most part of the rest of the day and barely sat up or moved about. I slept better that night than the previous night feeling happy that the surgery was over and i could move on from all the anxiety that afflicted me while growing up.

PRE OP ADMISSION - The Night Before

As advised by Dr.Vernon, I got myself admitted in Holy Family Hospital the evening before the surgery. My dad had accompanied me to the hospital and stayed on.
Nothing much happened in the evening. The nurse gave a Tetanus shot and the barber came in to shave me. He shaved off everything right from my belly button down to the middle of my thighs. I was concerned about the shaving aspect earlier as i am pretty hairy and have a pretty scrunched up looking scrotum. So i was really concerned about shaving nicks and cuts. But the whole thing was absolutely painless. They use a special surgical blade and not the regular one we use for our face. The surgical blade just smoothly glides over the skin and shaves the hair without shaving foam or water. I had my dinner and was advised not to drink any water or eat food post 10pm. Again i did as instructed and went to bed by 10pm. I was moderately nervous but also more anxious to get this whole thing over with. I tried to remain calm and for the most part was clam that night but was barely able to sleep more than a few hours that night. Maybe it was the state of my mind but the bed and pillows were also extremely uncomfortable.

CONSULTATION & DIAGNOSIS

As mentioned in my previous post i knew i already had been suffering from phimosis. I have decided to pursue higher studies and have gotten an admit to a college in another country. Before leaving my home country i wanted to make sure that i would be 100% OK and that nothing should come in the way of my studies for the next 2 years. Medical treatment in India is also much easier and affordable than in other countries.

I was referred to Dr. Vernon Sequira by family friends who are also doctors. Dr. Vernon is a general surgeon and well versed with adult circumcision. Durring my first consultation he examined me and tried to pull back my foreskin until it hurt me -- which really wasnt very far. After inspecting my penis he told me that i didnt have full blown phimosis since the tip was able to open slightly. My foreskin was very tight though and he said that there is inflammation on the foreskin and penis glans called Ballanoposthitis.
He recommended that the surgery be done to take care of the Phimosis and the Ballanoposthitis.
I had about a month to go before flying out for my studies and asked him to schedule the surgery asap.

He wrote down a bunch of pre op tests to be done and also a general physician check up to be done. He also gave me a dosage of antibiotics to be taken for 5 days before the sugery
I completed all the required tests and was declared fit for the op. Dr. Vernon scheduled my surgery on the 25th of July at 8.30 am.

WHY CIRCUMCISION

The reason i have started this blog is to give a detailed account of my experience of getting a circumcision done as an adult at the age of 25. I have done so as there are many fears and doubts in the minds of adult males who need to take this step. Fears that i can relate to as i had faced the same while contemplating about the procedure. During my research i came across several other blogs which were very useful in providing an insight into the whole procedure. Both the before and after. Their shared experiences along with images that helped me mentally prepare for what to expect and greatly helped negate the fear and anxiety i felt before going in for my circumcision. Just adding my experience out there just in case it may help someone in anyway whatsoever.

I have known since the age of 15 that i had PHIMOSIS. Still it has taken me a decade to finally go through the operation. I underwent my circumcision on 25 July 2013. I will post about everything from the time i got my diagnosis right up to my current day experiences.
